About Me/ My Site

Hello And Welcome

First a bit of help with the site just in case you cant find your way round..

In the sidebar you will see all the navigation thingy bobs.

First is Pages, which are oddly enough pages just like this one. They have static information which you are probably not going to want to read more than once. The exception being News/ Content, that page will show you all the wonderful exciting things I have posted on here starting with the latest and working back through time like whats is name out of  ‘Back to the Future’

Then comes categories, with those links you can dive straight in where you want to be and find the information that interests you – That’s ALL OF IT, I’m not wasting my time typing for you to ignore me Grrr

Splash - My new microprocessor camera controller 11Archive is a cryptic way of saying err… archive. You can jump to all the stuff I added at a particular time with that.

Latest Posts is obviously the latest posts, it lists the last 5 things I added, I will let you try to work out what latest comments is 😉

If the above doesn’t find the information you are looking for, you can try the search – always a good option in my opinion.

And finally the main menu where you can sign up for an account, log in, and do things with RSS feeds – Ill work them out sometime but as they come free they are there 😉

So now you know how to find your way round I will begin (are you seated comfortably)

If you don’t know already I am Louise, the creator of this little bit of the web. If you want to know a bit more about me then here is a few facts:

  • Age: 40+, that’s as close as you will get 😉
  • Occupation: Electrician (and a good one too)
  • Where Born: Yorkshire, England
  • Where I live: Currently Paisley, Scotland
  • Marital Status: Single and quite happy that way 😉
  • Hobbies: Computers/ Internet, Electronics, Photography, Radio controlled flight
  • Likes: Chicken Tika Musala, Nikon DSLR, Moggies
  • Dislikes: Bigots, Smelly People, Having to work, The M8 especially the Kingston Bridge

I think that’s enough of that piffle, if you want to know more then you will have to ask me.

I Spider SpiderSo what’s this websites purpose? Simple answer is because I was bored and wanted something to do 😀 My intention is to showcase my photographs, give explanations how they were taken, maybe give a few tutorials on photography and/ or photoshop techniques,  but first and foremost is to bore you to tears 😀

Photography is my main hobby, I am getting somewhat obsessed with it! I was a keen photographer many many years ago before (almost) computers were invented. I used to use a Zenith TTL 35mm camera and absolutely loved it, it was built like a Russian tank, fully manual, but capable of producing a superb photo or two.

Unfortunately the process involved buying film and then paying to have said film processed, getting one or two photos that I really had to keep out of each roll of 36 just became way too expensive for an unskilled/ often out of work layabout so I abandoned the hobby and went off in search of a career.

Then a year or so ago I found myself getting bored with spending every surplus penny on computers and computer related crap. It then dawned on me that DSLRs were getting entirely affordable and in a moment of madness I placed a bid on eBay for a Nikon D40X!

I should have known better, I should have known it would not end there, I think in the last 18 months I have probably spent more money on camera equipment than it would have cost me to carry on getting film developed to date 😮

Spike in the sunlightAnyway, as I don’t drink, don’t do drugs, don’t do the other thing cause I’m single, I have to spend the money on something and photography equipment is as good as anything else.

If you want to know what camera equipment I use then check out the My Camera Equipment page, scary that innit 😉

If you have any interest in photography, or just want to check out my photos, then please feel free to have a gander at my Flickr Page which is full to brim with superb photos like the ones on this page (you can click them to see the full size ones by the way)

Well, I think that’s about it for the About  page, check out the rest of my blog thingy bob and feel free to leave comments laying about behind you.

Louise

Just wanted to say, this is one of the nicest looking and well constructed sites I have ever seen.
I came across it via a google search for arduino pro mini.

Hey Louise! I saw your comment in the Bengal Cat forums about my website, http://www.ibdkitties.net. thank you so much for putting the link and shooting people over to the raw instructions and info. I really appreciate it! Your kitties are gorgeous by the way! I’m glad they’re on a raw diet and fed good food!

Thank you Louise, if you ever know of any kitties with IBD, pancreatitis, fatty liver and other GI issues, please don’t hesitate to contact me or send them my way. I hope you never have to but unfortunately thanks to large pet food companies poisoning our cats, these diseases are reaching epidemic rates. It’s just awful and so many of them are losing their fight, like my sweet soul kitty Alex did.

I was looking at your walking jackets, they look fantastic! I may put a link for those on my site!

Of course you may link to Happy House Cats, I would be very very grateful for it in fact. I am just in the process of getting the new shop set up with other hand made products and a few other bits and pieces to try to turn it into a proper business so links are very very welcome :)

My eventual switch to raw was because of Yuki, he was tested for all the usual candidates including TF and when everything came back negative I decided enough was enough and switched all four to raw – they all improved dramatically on it, much more active, the young ones gained weight better, Yuki was underweight for his age but he caught up quickly.

Absolutely the best thing I ever did, and now looking back I feel really guilty for not doing it 7 years ago. Better late than never though I guess.

LOL, yes, better late than never and now you can help educate others. Unfortunately my Maine Coon and my Tuxie won’t touch raw food no matter what I do! But I only feed them grain free wet food and they’ve not had one bite of the junky stuff since they were kittens before I got them.

The misconception about raw food and GI diseases though is that it cures IBD and other GI issues and that’s not true. that urks me to know end when I see that. I would be over the moon if that were true, but I have case studies on my website proving it’s not. Sometimes the bacteria in raw food can even be too much for kitties with those conditions. That’s happened with my sister’s kitty who did well on raw for over a year and now she can’t handle it at all. Throws it up every time.

It’s all so complicated and discouraging but thankfully more research is FINALLY being done for cats and not just dogs.

    • Louise says:

No I don’t think it is a cure, I would say more a preventative measure than a cure.

I tried loads of different foods with Yuki, and the result was anything from pretty loose output to near water. But within 24 hours of switching to raw he had the correct firm output and has been ever since. I think had I continued to try to feed commercial for any length of time there would be a good chance the damage would have become irreversible.

Having worked in the pet food industry I know EXACTLY what goes in, having also worked in the human food industry I also know EXACTLY what goes into that, and to be honest if people saw it with their own eyes they would never feed a pet with it or eat processed human food again – there is little wonder that commercial pet food creates these problems for pets, but that is hardly likely to change within a self regulated industry.

  6. Lisa says:

I agree on all fronts. My sister’s other kitty, who has since passed away, had horrible diarrhea when they moved back here 2 years ago. He was skin and bones! I switched him to a raw diet and he did fantastic for a long time. He eventually developed a mass in his stomach and went into renal failure but he had an extra two years of quality life.

Oh I know. I see plenty of information about and I send out recalls in my newsletter constantly, I just sent one actually right now. It’s disgusting and the reason so many thousands of pets died in 2007.
