Another new arrival due early June 2010..

April 23rd, 2010 by Louise

Well it has been a busy time, if you have been keeping up to date you should know about Toshi arriving in a few weeks but he will not be the only one..

Tricia has also decided to get a Bengal furkid, although it was not nearly as straight forward a decision as mine, there are strange and wonderful things happening and this is a prime example..

You should be aware that Tricia is my pal who was owned by Clawdius, and the sad story of how Clawdius lost the battle against FIP. If not, then go and read the other posts which deal with that then come back to this one ;)

Anyway, Tricia felt like she couldn’t take on another kitten because nothing could replace the wee man, and I think she was also frightened to get attached to a furkid again as it has been very very difficult for us all to deal with loosing Clawdius. I however decided I was going to get a Bengal furkid, and the search for a kitten began.

Tricia and I bounced various links to breeder sites at each other, checking out different litters looking for “The one” – Maybe I should have called him Neo :D

So, while we are looking at breeder websites, Tricia sent me a link to a site that had kittens available for me to look at. Then Tricia noticed on the homepage there was a one line news item that a litter of just one had been born, a boy, and it was on the same day that Clawdius passed away – 12th March. It seemed strange at the time, just one boy in the litter born on that day.

Eventually I decided on Toshi from a different breeder, but we kept an eye on the other site because they had a kitten webcam online so we could watch the kittens playing. The one boy born on 12th March didn’t appear in the kittens available section, I think Tricia thought about that kitten a lot during that time and he was mentioned regularly.

Then one night while chatting on MSN the kitten was mentioned again, Tricia said she had emailed the breeder and asked her to send photos of the kitten. The subject of the time this kitten was born then came up, and I said why don’t you email the breeder and ask? Tricia sent off an email and I asked her what she would do if the unthinkable was true, she said well I would have no choice I would have to have him.

Tricia then gets the reply from the breeder along with photos, the kitten was born at 12-45pm literally within 5 minutes of Clawdius passing. It turned out that the wee kitten was delivered by caesarian section, a procedure once thought to be named after Julius Caesar and Clawdius was named obviously  from a Roman Emperor.

I am not sure what the odds are that a single kitten would be born at that time, within 15 minutes drive of Tricia’s house, and that we would notice the one line of text that announced it, but it must be close to the odds of winning the lottery surely ;)

So needless to say, Tricia went to see the kitten as soon as he was old enough (5 weeks) to see how she felt seeing him face to face. Things went well and the financial matters were discussed, the breeder normally charges £450 for a brown spotted Bengal but she said that his marking were a bit small and Tricia could have the kitten for £300. Now neither Tricia nor myself would have a clue what good markings for the breed were, nor would we even be interested, all we wanted was a healthy happy kitten for a pet not something to give us bragging rights in Bengal circles, so both of us would have paid the full price without question.

The thing is, this one kitten born 12th march, close to Tricia’s house, by Caesarian section, was offered for £150 less than the normal price and oddly enough Tricia paid £150 for Clawdius.

I am not a big believer in psychic matters and life after death and all that as anyone who knows me would say, but I have to admit that this has me wondering.

Well, as you can imagine Tricia has paid a deposit to reserve the wee man and he has been officially named Simba. For those of you who don’t know Simba was the lion cub from Disneys ‘The Lion King’, of which the theme music is ‘The Circle of Life’

I don’t know if it is Clawdius come back to us but I do have to admit I think that way, but one thing I do know is that wee kitten could never have found a home where he will be loved like he will at Tricia’s and I cant wait for him to visit my house to play with Toshi n the cat playground.
