My first card commission

February 3rd, 2010 by Louise

My pal Tricia asked me to make her a card for an engagement and I thought it turned out quite well so here it is :)

I wanted to make a 3D card of some description and eventually decided this book idea was the best. I have to admit the concept wasn’t mine, I stole the idea for a ‘Book’ card from Linda who is a fellow member of the Black Cat Forum. My design is completely different in that it is like a real book with pages and has been created completely from scratch by myself.

The card was cut with my Cougar cutter from several different sorts of card stock. The book cover was printed onto hammered card stock and jazzed up with glitter flourishes cut from silver glitter card. The pages of the book were cut from linen card stock and the verse etc printed on before cutting, the glitter border was again cut from silver glitter card.

To make the card a bit special I added the superb flower spray on silver heart by Christine Mckie available from Thyme Graphics.

To display the card it sits on a silver stand, this was cut from silver mirror card with two layers sandwiched together so it is silver both sides.

Obviously this card is not going to travel well in an envelope even if you did manage to squeeze it into one, so next job on the list is to make a nice presentation box to house it. I haven’t decided exactly what sort of box yet, but I will update this post with a photo when its done.

*EDIT* I have now done the box so here is a photo of the boxed card. Its a basic shoe box style made from the same hammer effect card stock, the lattice cut lid has an acetate window behind the lattice although you can’t actually see it in the photo. I must say I think the whole project turned out really well and looks very nice in it’s presentation box :)

Well that’s about it for now, unless you want to buy a custom book card for a special occasion ;) I am still out of work so every penny I can scrape up is a penny further away from the work house – Oh, they don’t have them any more do they :(   Anyway, if you want one contact me using the contacts page ;)
