Remember remember the 5th of November..
Last night was bonfire night and I got dragged off to watch the Renfrewshire Annual Fireworks Display by my pals Linda & Tricia so I took my trusty D80 and tripod to capture the event in glorious technicolour digital bits.
The event included a roadshow by a local Radio station which featured some pretty awful sound system, get some bass in there ffs. There were a few rides etc for the kids and of course the main attraction was the fireworks display.
We arrived at the location nice and early to bag a good vantage point, stood there for over an hour camera and tripod ready (anger level 3/10), then the ‘organisers’ said the area had to be cleared for safety reasons, moved us on and erected barriers (anger level 6/10)
The area we were moved into was already packed with people and so the only place I could get the tripod set up now included the rather fetching lamp post in the shot (Anger level 8/10)
At about T-3 minutes I notice that in the area I had original picked there were now about half a doz adults and a gaggle of kids which the ‘organisers’ were not bothered about moving (anger level 9/10)
Then just as the display is about to start the ‘organisers’ decide to move the newly erected barriers and allow the crowd into the area I had originally been stood in (anger level – head exploded like one of the fireworks)
Anyway, if you program your eyes to ignore the lamp post I think the shots came out quite well, my initial guess at exposure was 1/4 sec at F3.5 at ISO 100. This turned out to be about right – I settled on 1/5th after reviewing the first few shots.
I went for ISO 100 to minimise noise, and as it turned out I don’t think there was any need to go for higher ISO.
Anyway here is the complete Flickr set of photos from the evening, I managed to get the photo count down from 470 to 17 to ease your viewing pleasure

Kicker: I can assure you there is no virus or malware on my site at all. There is absolutely nothing to worry about viewing any page on my website.
If by any chance you are using AVG or Avast AV you may wish to consider changing to Microsoft Security Essentials which gives a much lower number of false positives. I have used both of these AV’s for a number of years and have now abandoned both of them due to the extremely high false positive rate.

Another very nice piece of freeware which can give trouble free browsing is Sandboxie, with this installed you can run your favourite browser in a sandbox where it cannot infect your computer system with virus/ spyware. Once you have finished browsing you simply delete the sandbox and all the browsing history and downloads are eradicated.
