Let the decorating begin..

Been busy in the new flat today, starting the decorating!

I really really hate painting, I loath it, detest it, it drives me up the wall – literally. But I don’t have enough money to get someone else to do it so I suppose I have to :(

I made a start with the ceiling in the living room painting it white, I don’t know why but I just don’t like off white or cream coloured ceilings. I started preparing the walls, they have been painted over wall paper but the paper joins are overlapping and there are lumps and bumps in it so I scraped, filled and sanded them smooth (ish).

During the big de-lumping of the walls I discovered the plasterboard walls under the bay windows was absolutely soaking wet with big chunks missing. I was going to fill the holes but decided it would be flogging a dead horse so I ripped the whole lot out and then found out why the boards were wet through, there is a gap under the window frame big enough to get your fist in! Well maybe not quite that big, more like about 1/4 inch, but obviously big enough for the horrendous wind we have been getting the last couple of days to blow the rain straight through onto the back of the boards.

So, tomorrow is another trip to the good old “You Can Do It If You B & Q’it” for some timber, I am going to build a new stud wall about 6 inches in from the original wall position and extend the window sills by 6 inches so the moggies have a big enough sill to sleep on. They will love sitting in the bay window, they will have a 270 degree view from there :)

I am nearly there on contents, I have a computer and a TV; what more could you want? Well, actually I have managed to lay my hands on a gas cooker, fridge freezer, I have my black leather 3 seater and 2 seater reclining couches, tumble dryer, bed, bedroom drawers, microwave & all other kitchen stuff, hoover, computer desk & chair and “A partridge In A Pear Tree”

All I need now is washing machine and carpets I think, anyone got a washing machine they want to donate?

I got the gas reconnected today as well, so I stuck the central heating on to test it out. I was sweating like a stuck pig within 10 minutes, there’s definitely nothing wrong with the boiler that’s fer sure :)

So that’s the state of affairs as of now, hopefully I will be moving in permanent early next week :)
